One of the biggest issues in the current election campaign for Governor has been the issue of homelessness…why so many people are homeless in California and what each of the candidates say they would do about it.
But as voters prepare to make their pick and cast their ballots, a new report says there have been more and more voters choosing to leave their homes here in California to move somewhere else.
The study by the California Policy Lab, a research institute at the University of California says the reason is not a surprise. Our political leaders call it affordability
The report says that Californians who have moved to other states say the median home price in their new location was 48-percent cheaper than in their former neighborhood in California.
The report says Californians also pay 11% more than the national average for groceries, 40% more for gas and 61% more for utilities.
The so-called “sunshine tax” that we pay for being able to live in California with its better weather than in other places with its outdoor life, the natural beauty and the beaches, is something real.
But unless the candidates for governor and all state and local leaders in California start doing something to lower that tax, affordability may become unaffordable.
