Are California Voters Getting Turned Off?

If you didn’t watch the latest televised debate with the candidates for Governor in California, you probably weren’t alone. The early voting begins early next week.  The Primary Election Day is June 2nd.

But despite nationwide interest in the race for governor this year, which will decide who succeeds Gavin Newsom, it is not generating as much interest as it probably should.

Even with ads on TV every few minutes, every day and every evening, none of the candidates seem to be drawing the kind of interest you might imagine they would.

Of course, primary elections do attract far less interest and voter turnout than general elections in November.

But in an election year that is a very politically charged one nationwide, with both parties saying lots of bad things about each other, often and in very harsh and mean ways, could it be that some voters are getting just turned off and want to just tune out the whole thing from their lives.

Of course, that’s not a good thing for our state or our country.

A democracy only works if people take part and vote.
