The World Cup. It’s called the biggest sports event of the year. The NFL’s Super Bowl can draw something like 100-million or more viewers. Major League Baseball’s World Series cam draw almost as many.
But the World Cup here in 2026 will draw hundreds of millions of viewers around the world.
Soccer may not get as much attention as football, baseball and basketball in the United States, the soccer tournament that pits countries from around the globe is huge.
And with the World Cup matches being played in the U.S. including here in Calfornia in L-A and the Bay area, and in Mexico and Canada, it will attract maybe even more than usual.
And here in San Diego, which has become a hot bed for soccer, especially since the Chargers abandoned us, leaving a very bad taste behind, is likely to become an even hotter hot bed for soccer.
And as a city that sits next to Mexico, San Diego is a perfect American city where soccer could grow and grow.
Of course, that means more San Diegans will learn what a red card is and what stoppage time means. Welcome to the World Cup.
