If you’re going to Comic Con or just going to the Gaslamp to people watch with many dressed up in their super hero costumes, look around, beyond the pop up attractions.
Going to the Gaslamp can mean having to walk around homeless encampments that are cleared of people sleeping in cardboard shelters or small tents that are cleared out only to be back within days.
And going to the Gaslamp also can mean dealing with the street vendor problem, with the city not currently enforcing the law about them.
The executive director of theGaslamp Quarter Association may be happy about all the visitors spending money at local restaurants and shops, but he is not happen about what he has called a free for all when it comes to street vendors.
When large conventions come to town and when the Padres are in the playoffs, the city has cleaned up things and tightened things down so the Gaslamp and our downtown area are more attractive to all the many visitors.
Presumably they probably did some of that for Comic-Con week. But wouldn’t it be nice if they did it year round.
