Firefighters who responded to the vegetation fire that burned about 130 acres in the Penasquitos Creek area of Sorrento Valley had to deal with more than just the flames.
As we reported yesterday, San Diego Fire Rescue and San Diego police officials said they had to also deal with some people who may have hampered the firefighting efforts.
Fire crews were delayed in responding because people from outside the neighborhood showed up to watch the fire and take pictures and video...
These people also delayed others who were evacuating their homes and trying to get to safe areas during the fire...
The presence of people gathering near the fire to take photos and video also can make it more dangerous for the air tankers to drop retardant without hitting people.
These are problems that firefighters have no time for in responding to a spreading fire that can sometimes quickly reach homes if there are delays.
Private citizen drones also have been a problem at some fires, with one incident not that long ago when an air tanker was hit and damaged by one of those drones and had to head back to the landing base.
These vegetation fires are part of life in California and some people need to learn a life lesson about that.
