Vaccination rates among kindergartners in the state are at their highest point in 16 years.
The California Department of Public Health says vaccine rates are up three percentage points in the 2016-17 school year over the 2015-16 school year.
Despite statewide improvements in vaccination rates, schools and communities with low vaccination rates remain at risk for outbreaks.
Health officials say consistent, high immunizations rates are needed to prevent the spread of disease and to protect the small number of people who cannot receive a vaccination for medical reasons.
