Why Doctors Are Commiting Suicide

While doctors are saving lives every day, there’s an unspoken reality in the medical community: doctors are also killing themselves at an alarming rate, 300-400 a year, or roughly one physician every day.

Dr. Michael Myers-the “doctor’s doctor”-has spent his career treating physicians and their families. Upon investigating and researching this disturbing trend, he’s in San Diego to reveal the truth behind a silent epidemic.“There’s a common thread in nearly every case of physician suicide: the toxic stigma of mental health care for doctors,” says Dr. Myers, who will be speaking at the American Psychiatric Association's annual meeting .

Dr. Myers says doctors are often afraid to reach out for help for a variety of reasons.
