Lead Poisoning Can Affect Children For Years

Right now schools are being tested for lead throughout San Diego County.

Research from Kaiser Health says while there is of course concern for health impacts, a study found no matter what the child’s IQ, the mother’s IQ, or the family’s social status, lead poisoning resulted in downward social mobility.

Duke University researchers tracked a generation of kids.

They did a nearly 30 year study starting in the early 70's when gas still contained lead and tested kids for lead exposure at age 11.

By the time people got to the age of 38, a pattern emerged of worse cognitive abilities based on their exposure to lead. and they were likely to be worse off socioeconomically than those who had not been exposed to lead.
