Many studies have shown a connection between gum disease (periodontitis) and other serious conditions, including heart disease, and now a new study links gingivitis.
Researchers looked at the bacteria in the brains of people with Alzheimer's. They also tested mice and found gum infection lead to a higher production of amyloid beta, which is part of the amyloid plaque associated with Alzheimer's.
Previous unaffiliated studies have also linked periodontal disease and Alzheimer's, and other studies link gum disease to heart disease.
