Cross Border Tunnel With Rail System Discovered Near Jacumba

A tunnel has been discovered that crosses the U.S. Mexican-Border near Jacumba in San Diego's East County.

The U.S. Border Patrol, Homeland Security and DEA are investigating following the tunnel's discovery September 19th by Mexican military forces who came upon the opening at a residence in Jacume, Baja California last month.

The military forces alerted the Attorney General of Mexico which notified U.S. authorities about the possibility the tunnel stretched into the U.S.

The tunnel, approximately 627 feet is incomplete and though it stretched from Jacume, Baja into the U.S., it did not have a surface opening.

Officials say the tunnel did have a solar system to power electrical, lighting and ventilation systems inside. A rail system
