Grocery Worker Tests Positive; Coronavirus Cases Rise to 519 in County

The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in San Diego County has risen to 519 as of late Sunday afternoon.

Dr. Eric McDonald with the county's health agency said at the dally afternoon briefing Sunday that the number of deaths remained at seven after the report Saturday that a man in his 80's had died from COVID-19. The seven people include a 25 year old man, another man in his 50s with the other people who have died in their 70s or 80s.

The number of confirmed cases of coronaviruses reported in the county as of 5 p.m. Sunday was 519, up from 488 the day before.. County health officials say they expect the number of continue to rise but say the rate can be slowed if residents comply with the stay at home orders to limit travel to only that which is necessary and that everyone practice social distancing and wash their hands frequently. Medical experts say the way most people contract the virus us by touching their hand to their face.

Grocery Store Worker Tests Positive

An employee at the Albertsons grocery store on West Valley Parkway in Escondido has been diagnosed with the coronavirus according to a company a spokeswoman, who added the employee last worked March 24.and is under medical care.. The store is open and the spokeswoman says the store has been thoroughly disinfected several times., adding that the store is following CDC and says some employees at that store may be asked to self-quarantine for 14 days and would be paid.

The Albertsons employee was one of five workers in the local food service industry to test positive since the virus emerged in the county. Of those, four worked in restaurants according to the county's environmental health department

County health officials urged everyone to continue to practice social distancing when in grocery stores and at restaurants getting takeout and to wash hands frequently after being out and wash produce when they get home.

County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said, “We do not believe there is any risk to the public at all at this facility or any food handling facility,” he added. “There is no evidence at all to suggest the transmission of COVID-19 associated with food. That is the Centers for Disease Control guidance."..
