San Diego could see the largest turn-out in the history for a presidential election based on the estimates from Registrar of Voters Michael Vu's office.
More than one million of the county’s 1.9 million registered voters had already turned in their mail ballots prior to the start Saturday of four days of in-person voting that continues through Election Day on Tuesday.
Due to COVID concerns, there are fewer polling places for this election — 235 instead of the ususal 1,500 but they are in much larger facilities, such as schools and community centers for social distancing purposes. Masks are required at all voting locations.
Election officials have encouraged people not to wait until Election Day, when the lines could be long. The voting locations are open through Monday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be open on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. People can return mail ballots at any of the 126 official drop-off locations.
Ballots returned in the mail have to be postmarked on or before Election Day or they don’t get counted.
