ENCINITAS (KNSD) - The superintendent of San Dieguito Union High School District is filing a lawsuit after she was placed on administrative leave for what some call disparaging comments against Asian-American students.
Cheryl James-Ward tells NBC 7 says she was not placed on leave because of her comments at a recent meeting but for retaliation for filing a complain against the board's vice president Michael Allman.
"That complaint needed to be filed," James-Ward said. "I filed it and I’m going to stand by it, period. You fire me, you fire me.”
While it's unclear what the March 10th complaint is about, James-Ward claims Allman is a bully, claims he denies.
James-Ward says she has plenty of support from the Asian-American community and that those against diversity and inclusion are using this opportunity to get her fired.
“They put a complete hit out on me to make this into something it’s not," James-Ward said. "They created this insanity to rile up the community about something that is a contributing factor.”
The superintendent issued two apologies for her remarks about Asian-American student's success and says she's doing the right thing by fighting the district.
