California Residents Weigh In on College Affordability

LOS ANGELES (KOGO) - A new poll shows the majority of California residents feel the state college and university system is unaffordable.

The survey commissioned by several community groups found 60 percent of residents feel the University of California is unaffordable and 55 percent said the same thing about the California State University system. The Los Angeles Times reports some 45 percent of respondents expressed their doubt about how a college education could lead to better economic opportunities. Most survey respondents agreed community colleges and trade schools were better alternative paths to career success.

Community leaders claim the state's financial aid programs are generous but that residents, especially students of color, are not aware of the opportunities.
