Fire Rips Through Chula Vista Apartment Complex

CHULA VISTA - Fire officials in Chula Vista are investigating a fire that ripped through an apartment complex.

12 people were displaced after the fire broke out at the Country Club Villiage apartments on Third Avenue around 6:00 a.m. Monday. Josiah Molina was visiting friends for the holiday and when fire crews came knocking he told reporting partner 10 News that's when they saw the destruction taking place around them.

"So we just ran out as fast as we could and the first thing that we saw was a lot of smoke," said Molina.

Souraya Laarsi and her grandson live at the complex and says she's thankful for the quick work of firefighters.

"Its scary 'cause the first thing you think about is you don't wanna lose lives," Laarsi said.

Authorities believe the fire started in a downstairs unit and spread from there. In all, six units were damaged but no injuries were reported.
