SAN DIEGO - San Diego County supervisors unanimously approved a plan to recruit and hire neurodivergent residents, including those on the autism spectrum.
The plan by Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer and Supervisor Chairman Nathan Fletcher would also require all county staff and hiring managers to complete disability and neurodiversity training. The supervisors are also encouraging other local employers to follow suit and provide San Diego residents with autism and other neurodiverse traits with job opportunities.
The new policy builds upon Jay's Program, a 2019 initiative which provides paid internships for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
