Throwing a Few Punches to help At-Risk Youth

NATIONAL CITY - Our men and women in uniform will be throwing some punches this weekend... all in the name of charity.

The Community Youth Athletic Center in National City is a place where about 40 to 50 at-risk youth spend a few hours a day each week.

"We take kids from 8 to 18 with the idea to keep kids off the streets and give them a place to be, and boxing is a way we do that," Executive Director Clemente Casillas tells reporting partner 10 News.

The athletic center is a non-profit organization and relies heavily on one annual fundraiser to keep the doors open. The annual Battle of the Badges boxing match puts police, Sheriff's deputies, first responders and military members head to head in the ring. The event takes place Saturday evening, June 18th on the deck of the USS Midway.
