San Diego Leaders, Attorneys React to Overturning of Roe v. Wade

SAN DIEGO - Reactions are pouring in after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the decades-old decision which legalized abortion nationwide. It did so while considering a case out of Mississippi where the state attempted to ban abortion after 15 weeks.

San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria issued a statement saying a woman’s right to reproductive freedom, including abortion, has been recognized for half a century and is now being rolled back by justices who are catering to the country’s right-wing extremists.

The mayor pledged to do everything within his power to preserve reproductive freedom and the privacy rights that every American should be able to enjoy.

San Diego County Supervisor Chairman Nathan Fletcher spoke out against the ruling, saying constitutionally protected rights have have been erased.

The supervisor said it's time to work together to fight injustices against women and all people, adding San Diego County is committed to preserving reproductive freedom and a woman's right to choose.

Congressman Darrell Issa also weighed in, calling it a great day for the cause and principle of life, adding he would always support and the Constitution.
