SAN DIEGO - The San Diego City Council unanimously approves an extension and expansion of the safe lot program for homeless persons.
The city will continue the program through June of next year, operating at three sites: one in Mission Valley and two in Kearny Mesa. This comes after San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria asked the city council for $1.43 Million for extending the program, with more than $400,000 going toward extended hours the Mission Valley site, which will eventually be open 24 hours. The Mayor says the move is necessary because some work schedules don't line up with current hours of 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
Jewish Family Service will continue to run the sites under contract with the city.
