SAN DIEGO - Family and community members are in mourning after a dispute between neighbors in Valencia Park turns deadly.
29-year-old Jenelle Self died after she was hit by a car on Imperial Avenue Monday afternoon. That car was driven by her neighbor, and the incident happened after an argument between the two women. Self later died at the hospital.
"We're still not processing, we're still not understanding it," Jesus Cruz, Self's uncle, told reporting partner 10 News.
Cruz says he and others were aware that Self - a single mother of a two-year-old boy and a veteran - was having problems with her neighbor, but they never thought it would escalate to this. Police have arrested the neighbor, 44-year-old Samantha Muniz, on suspicion of murder.
Muniz had apparently threatened Self in the past, and the property owner, Veterans Village of San Diego, was aware of the problem. Security guards were hired, but the service ended two weeks ago.
