Woman who Ran Over Man who Confronted Her about Child Abuse Learns Her Fate

SAN DIEGO - A San Diego woman who admitted to running over a man who confronted her about child abuse will spend several years behind bars.

26-year-old Tantrina Spencer-Simmons was sentenced Monday to nine years in prison. She pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon and hit-and-run charges for running over then-50-year-old James Shank in August 2019.

It happened after Shank confronted Spencer-Simmons about hitting her then eight-year-old sister with a belt in the parking lot of an apartment complex. He survived but has had multiple surgeries since then and will likely be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
