San Diego Pride in Full Swing

SAN DIEGO - The Pride celebration here in San Diego culminates this weekend with several events.

One of those is the Spirit of Stonewall Rally happening tonight at 6:00 p.m. Friday at the Hillcrest Pride Flag at the intersection of University Avenue and Normal Street. The event is to recognize individuals who contribute significantly to the LGBTQ+ community.

Also going on at the same spot today until late Friday night the Hillcrest Block Party featuring a cocktail bar, beer garden, food trucks, a Ferris wheel and a dance party.

But the main event is Saturday: the San Diego Pride Parade. The parade, which is making a comeback after a two year hiatus because if the pandemic, is expected to draw more than 200,000 spectators along the parade route, which is from University Avenue at Normal Street heading West, then South on Sixth Avenue to Balboa Park. The parade kicks off at 10:00 a.m. This year's parade will feature a military contingent with the Marine Band from MCRD and there will be a youth marching band as well.

The Pride Festival is happening at Balboa Park starting at 11:00 a.m. Saturday running through Sunday night.
