SAN DIEGO - A Camp Pendleton Marine is wanted for desertion and the investigation is heating up.
Andrew Tyler Hall, 29, a native of Lehigh Acres, Florida, disappeared from Camp Pendleton in mid-February. Trish Routte of Crime Stoppers Southwest Florida tells reporting partner 10 News the Marine Corps has contacted Hall a number of times but to no avail.
“Every phone call has ended with the same conversation: ‘I’m going to turn myself in," said Routte. "So it’s been kind of a cat-and-mouse game, but every time he says he’s going turn himself in, he never does.”
Routte also says this is the first time her agency has had to work with the military to apprehend a deserter. Friends and family have not been cooperative with the Marine Corps' efforts to bring Hall back in. A $3,000 reward is being offered.
According to the Navy, 157 sailors deserted in 2021 up from 63 in 2019. The Marine Corps has actually had a decrease in deserters from 59 in 2019 down to 31 in 2021.
