Pharmacists Could Go on Strike

LOS ANGELES - Pharmacists at major grocery stores in Southern California have authorized a strike.

The United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) says its nearly 600 pharmacist members overwhelmingly voted in favor of allowing labor leaders to stage a walk-out if negotiations stall with Ralphs, Vons and Albertsons stores. The union has filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board accusing the stores of retaliating against pharmacists for their involvement in union activities and trying to bribe pharmacists with bonuses instead of negotiating wage increases.

No date has been set for a strike. Negotiations between the union and the chains are ongoing.
