SAN DIEGO - Two more people have died while in Sheriff's Department custody.
On Friday, July 22, a 35-year-old man was found unresponsive in a housing unit at the George Bailey Detention Facility. Staff provided medical aid, including several doses of Naloxone, but he was pronounced dead.
On Thursday, July 21, a 64-year-old man died in the hospital just hours after he was compassionately released from Sheriff's Department custody. The man had been in Sheriff's custody since January of 2021, but had been in and out of the hospital for most of that time. The incident is still being investigated as an in-custody death despite the man's release.
