SAN DIEGO - A suspect is in custody in connection with the death of an elderly man in Scripps Ranch.
Jeffrey Smith, 60, is charged with one count of murder over the death of William Deignan, 87. A family member found Diegnan dead at his Scripps Ranch home on August 2nd after he reportedly drowned in his nearly empty swimming pool. During the investigation, San Diego Police noted suspicious circumstances and called in the homicide unit.
So far, the cause of death and other details have not been released.
Police also learned that Deignan had a restraining order against Smith, who was found at Diegnan's home earlier this week. He was arrested and booked into county jail for violating that restraining order. He's being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday.
