County Supervisors Push Ahead with Marijuana Tax Measure

SAN DIEGO - County Supervisors have approved the ballot language for a measure which would tax marijuana businesses.

The supervisors voted four to one to approve the language of the ballot measure which those in favor said will help provide a safe, regulated and legal cannabis market in San Diego County. Supervisor Jim Desmond was the lone no vote.

Edits to the previous draft included the majority of supervisors urging a yes vote on the measure. This comes after Supervisors voted three to one in June to place the measure on the November ballot, with Desmond as the lone no vote.

Only five marijuana businesses are currently allowed to operate in unincorporated areas: three in Ramona, one near Escondido and another near El Cajon.

The tax measure is just one step in the county's overall plan for expanding cannabis businesses in unincorporated areas.
