Is Larry Millete Mentally Fit for Trial?

SAN DIEGO - The mental competency hearing for Larry Millete, the man accused of killing his missing wife Maya, has been pushed back.

Doctors for Larry Millete say they need more time to produce a report on his mental health before he can stand trial and a judge agreed, rescheduling the hearing to September 26th. Maya's sister Maricris Droullete was at the court house Monday and says she's sure he's mentally fit.

"He's there, I mean, he's mentally competent and he knows what he's doing," said Maricris.

Marcicris's husband Richard says this may be a tactic just to drag things out.

"He seemed normal, like everything seemed normal for years until this happened," said Richard. "All of the sudden he's not capable of speaking or, you know, stepping into trial."

The trial was supposed to begin back in June.

Larry was arrested last October for Maya's murder, who's been missing since January of last year. Her body has not been found and friends and family continue to hold search parties in hopes they can eventually find her to help bring closure to the family and her three children.
