CHULA VISTA - Homeless people will be cleared out of Harborside Park Wednesday despite the recent attempts of homeless advocates to stave off the sweep.
A temporary injunction against the City of Chula Vista to stop the removal of those camped out in the park was denied in federal court Tuesday. Mandy Lien tells NBC 7 despite the legal setback.. she hopes the city realize homeless advocates like her aren't backing down.
“Hopefully this puts leadership on notice that we will keep learning from this and keep moving forward to protect their rights until you get the services they need," Lien said.
The park has become a haven for homeless encampments and drug use, which prompted city leaders to close the park. A temporary fence will be put up and security guards will be on site to keep people out of the park for at least the next 90 days at a cost of about $350,000.
The city will then have to come up with a long-term plan to keep the park clean and safe.
