Some San Diego County Schools Impacted by Heatwave

SAN DIEGO - Some schools in San Diego County are letting kids out early because of the heat and air conditioning issues.

Bernardo Heights Middle School and Rancho Bernardo High School next door are operating on a modified schedule through Friday because of problems with the air conditioning system.

"Most of my rooms I have class in have like fans and stuff, so it's cooler, but it's still really hot so it's hard to get stuff done,” one student at Bernardo Heights Middle School told reporting partner 10 News.

The school district installed a new chiller to boost the outdated AC system that feeds both schools but it's not working right. The district is working on getting new AC equipment installed. Parents say the earlier pickup times are an inconvenience and others say they'd prefer their kids go back to online learning until the district can get the AC issue fixed.

Midland Elementary kids also had a shortened day Wednesday due to AC problems but the district says they got that system fixed and students will be back on their regular schedule Thursday.
