Vista High Parents, Students Rally for Change following Alleged Misconduct

VISTA - Protests continue outside of Vista High School following incidents of apparent locker room misconduct involving members of the football team.

Wednesday's Back to School Night was cancelled as students and parents rallied outside of Vista High School calling for better school safety in the wake of threatening social media posts after a 14-year-old student was reportedly attacked.

Vista High School sophomore Bryan Sanchez tells NBC 7 he and others are standing up on behalf of the victim.

"It wasn't correct, what happened to that kid and he deserves justice and he deserves someone to speak up for him," Sanchez said. "Everyone seems a little stressed about it or a little confused or worried and a lot are angry."

Listen to the story below:

The Vista Unified School District has confirmed three football players involved in the incident have been kicked off the team and suspended from campus. The district also said the football coach that was fired was responsible for monitoring the locker room at the time of the incident.

School administrators say there will be an increased presence of Sheriff's Deputies on and near the campus but some parents say they haven't seen a change in patrols. Other parents are calling for the high school to restore funding for a campus resource officer. The school is apparently working on contracting with the Sheriff's Department to hire a resource officer.

The Sheriff's Department says there's no evidence a sexual assault occurred in either of the recent locker room incidents and the alleged victim did not require medical attention.
