State Senator Introduces Bill to crack down on Homeless Encampments

EL CAJON - A San Diego area lawmaker is introducing a bill aimed at tackling the homeless problem in big cities.

The bill from State Senator Brian Jones, who represents portions of Eastern San Diego County, would outlaw homeless encampments near schools, parks, libraries and other sensitive community areas. Law enforcement officers would also be required to provide homeless people with information about sleeping alternatives, shelters, and homeless and mental health services.

Senator Jones' office says homelessness has increased by ten percent in San Diego in the least year and is also skyrocketing across the state, calling the situation a public health and safety crisis.
