Thousands of Housing United Needed to Solve Homeless Problem: Report

SAN DIEGO - Reducing homelessness in San Diego County could be an uphill battle.

According to a report released Wednesday by the Regional Task Force on Homelessness says 9,000 affordable and supportive housing units are needed to make a dent in the homeless crisis in the region. Hundreds of new shelter beds are also needed to prevent most people from living on the streets.

The report also has an ambitious five year plan to end homelessness for certain groups, including veterans and youth, as well as reducing the total homeless population in the county by half. The task force is currently developing ways to implement that plan.
