Vandalism Case Against Marines Dismissed

SAN DIEGO - The felony vandalism case against a group of Marines in San Diego has been dismissed.

A spokesperson for the San Diego County District Attorney's Office told NBC 7 the case was dismissed "in the interest of justice." The DA's office says the Marines paid more than $18,000 in restitution to the San Diego Zoo to cover lost revenues, repairs and inspections.

Back in January, the Marines were on the gondola ride at the zoo when they began rocking it, causing it to stall, leaving about 100 passengers stranded in the air for two hours.

The Marines, who were from MCAS Yuma, were training at MCAS Miramar at the time of the incident. No word yet if they'll face charges in a military court.
