WHITTIER - Several Los Angeles County Sheriff's recruits are injured after they were hit by an SUV.
It happened around 6:30 a.m. while a large group of the recruits were on a run in the city of Whittier, about 20 miles east of Downtown Los Angeles. Several recruits are said to be in critical condition and have been taken to the hospital. Green, yellow and red triage mats were set up on the street, which are used by first responders to indicate the severity of injuries. Several more of the recruits were being treated at this chaotic scene.
The recruits may be a part of a training academy which is not far from where the incident happened.
A suspect has been taken into custody and an investigation into what led up to the incident is underway.
