SAN DIEGO - There's now a ban on wood bonfires on San Diego City beaches.
The City Council approved the new policy Tuesday, which says wood fires must be in designated fire rings and not on the sand. Council members say the new policy will reduce burn injuries from smoldering wood underneath the sand and improve air quality in beach neighborhoods. The policy also clarifies enforcement of beach fires.
Propane fires will still be allowed in other areas of the beach.
