Judge Again Denies Bond for Grandmother of Abused Spring Valley Girl

EL CAJON - A judge is again denying bond for the adoptive grandmother of a Spring Valley child who died after she was apparently tortured and abused.

Adella Tom will stay behind bars while she awaits trial on abuse and torture charges in connection with the death of her 11-year-old granddaughter Arabella McCormack back in August. NBC 7 reports the judge would not release Tom because she does not have a San Diego County address. She and her husband Stanley Tom are residents of Lucerne Valley in San Bernardino County. The judge agreed with the prosecution that Tom could go on the run.

This is the second time in recent weeks Tom's attorney has tried to get her released.

Tom's husband Stanley and their daughter Leticia McCormack are also charged with abuse and torture in connection with Arabella's death, but also face one count of murder. Adella Tom is not currently facing a murder charge because she was sick and not present during the last weeks of Arabella's life.

McCormack was a leader at The Rock Church, but the church says it has since severed ties with her.

All three suspects have pleaded not guilty and will be back in court in January for a hearing which will determine a trial date.
