The Border Patrol is changing its policy on chases
The agency is adopting a "reasonableness" policy when it comes to suspect pursuits, similar to other law enforcement agencies across the nation. This means agents will need to weigh the risks before chasing after a suspect. There will also be new reporting requirements for chases as well.
This comes after the the Department of Homeland Security received multiple complaints last year about possible civil rights violations as a result of vehicle pursuits over the previous year, and after a number of pursuit-related deaths.
The policy is slated to go into effect later this year after agents receive training on the new guidelines.
