SAN DIEGO - A proposed nation-wide ban on gas stoves fueled backlash from plenty of people across the country, but some cities, including San Diego, have already committed to the idea.
An update to San Diego's Climate Action Plan passed last year includes a goal to eliminate nearly all natural gas use from buildings in the city by 2035. The phasing out of gas is not just public buildings but for new and existing private properties, according to Voice of San Diego.
The city estimates that would cut 1.9 million metric tons of greenhouse gasses produced in the city each year. But the transition will be costly and labor unions are concerned about how the move will affect jobs in the natural gas industry.
