County Expanding Program aimed at serving Justice Impacted Veterans

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego County Board of Supervisors this week voted to expand a program that helps Veterans who are currently or were recently incarcerated.

The Community Care Coordination for Veterans program helps former military members transition from jail back into society by providing assistant with housing, job training, job placement, as well as mental health and substance-use treatment.

The program started at the Vista Detention Center but will now be available at all county jails, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. The program was started after recent data showed a relationship between the number of veterans who were in county jails and the number of veterans who recently became homeless in the region.
