SAN DIEGO - Brothers Orhan and Hason Uz of Solana Beach could be experiencing some of the greatest loss after the devastating earth quakes in Turkey.
"Honestly, there is no word to describe the situation here," Hason Uz told reporting partner 10 News. "I don't know anyone can write any book or anything that would describe it. It's so sad. It's so heartbreaking."
Uz has been back in his homeland since the first quake hit helping his elderly mother. He's lost his niece, sister-in-law and dozens of cousins and extended family members.
"Literally, we've been to the cemetery every day for different funerals, burying the dead," said Uz.
Many buildings remain unstable and are still falling, making residents worry about seeking shelter indoors, despite the winter cold. The Islamic Center of San Diego is among many local religious organizations who are helping to raise funds for those who are in need in Turkey. San Diego's Eastern Orthodox community has also been raising money for those affected by the earthquakes across the border in Syria.
