I walked into my room yesterday afternoon, and nearly jumped out of my skin. There was a racket in my chimney that I wasn't expecting. Phred the cat was actually in the fireplace, chittering and looking quite happy.
It was a bird. A dove to be exact. It somehow got in, but it's trapped and cant get out...at least not upward.
The chimney is too narrow for her to take flight.
So I look up and there she is. Breathing fast, and covered in soot. (I have a feeling she got a gander at the cat and thought , "oh heck no, I am not going out through there!")
SO I did what everyone does when you have a situation that you don't know how to deal with...a Facebook post.
I asked for help...and received many recipes that I may be able to modify for chicken. Helpful suggestions too...like, light a fire. Everybody's a comedian.
Of course, the idea is to rescue the dove and release her back outside, so the cooking suggestions I am filing away for later.
Here is what I decided to do instead:
I found a wine box and some millet and a flashlight. I put a little water in a bowl, and put Phred the cat in the bathroom. And now I wait. I hope I go home to a dove who has found the bottom of my box, so I can release her. Failing that, I am going to reach up into that filthy chasm and pull that bird out with my own hands. Wish me luck.
