Florida Shooting Victim Buried With Military Honors

Peter Wang, 15, was buried with military honors on Tuesday.

It was an emotional scene Tuesday at the funeral for Peter Wang, who was killed as he held the doors open for fellow classmates during last week’s shooting in Parkland, Florida.

In life, he wanted to be a soldier. An online petition called for the Junior ROTC cadet to be given full military honors at his funeral. The U.S. Army announced it was awarding the teenager a Medal Of Heroism for his valor, along with two other Junior ROTC cadets killed in the massacre.

Wang was also posthumously accepted to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point on Tuesday “for his heroic actions on Feb. 14, 2018” and then buried in his Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) uniform.

Wang would have been in the Class of 2025, a West Point spokesman said.

San Diego is such a proud military city, I'm sure many here mourning his death and hoping we see an end to this senseless violence against our children. No blaming today -- just honoring and remembering.
