Good Samaritan Falls To His Death In Pine Valley

A Good Samaritan is dead after stopping to assist during an accident on the Pine Valley Bridge Wednesday morning. CHP says just after 5:10 Wednesday morning, a 32-year-old man from Campo was driving a pickup truck that slipped on an icy 8 westbound and hit the railing. A Good Samaritan, who hasn't been identified, stopped his Subaru Outback in the left lane behind Ford F-150 and attempted to assist the driver.

Moments later, a 33-year-old male from Campo driving a pickup truck slowed down to avoid the crash, and a 24-year-old man from Campo driving another car rear-ended the pickup truck. He was then rear-ended by another car, driven by a 40-year-old man from Boulevard collided with the back of that car. All other people involved in the crash had minor injuries.

As the crash happened, the Good Samaritan ran to avoid it, jumping over the bridge and falling to the bottom of Pine Valley Creek. The body will be recovered and the medical examiner is expected to release more details.

CHP says at the time of the collision, the weather was foggy, dark and the roadway was icy.

It's been a common theme as winter hit San Diego. There was another deadly accident on an icy roadway Tuesday night in Boulevard. CHP says a woman died after her car rolled over on the eastbound 8 around 11p.m.

According to Cal Fire, overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday, it has responded to 12 traffic collisions countywide.
