I was born in a small hospital in Santa Paula, which is in Ventura County. Every fall we anticipated the Santa Ana winds. In fact, Santa Paula is basically surrounded by mountains on 3 sides, so the gusts are especially strong. I've seen South Mountain burn before, but never so quickly. Just last week I was there cleaning out my grandma's house, as she just moved into a retirement home in Ventura. I actually took time out of my chores to gaze at South Mountain from her front yard. It's sad to see what's happening, but I'm glad my 95 year old grandma is safe and secure in her new home. And I hope everyone is out of harm's way.
