The Political Fireworks Heading into Fourth of July

As we head into the July 4th holiday weekend, we leave the month of June behind that saw plenty of political fireworks in the news.

There were fiery reactions to controversial Supreme Court rulings, explosive testimony and allegations from the January 6th House committee, and bursts of debate over a gun safety law.

All the political booms and bangs are sure to fire back up after the July 4th holiday. But for most Americans, this weekend will be a time to celebrate our nation’s birthday.

With the pandemic having reduced or eliminated some of the traditional fireworks displays and cancelled some of the traditional July 4th events the last two years, everyone will be anxious to do what we usually do for this holiday.

While COVID is still around and cases have been up following Memorial Day weekend, certainly the number of Americans who are travelling this July 4th holiday weekend by car or by plane is a sign that a lot of people want to get back to doing what’s normal on the 4th of July weekend. And after all the news this last month, it’s a very good time for all Americans to take time to be together and to celebrate what the founders of our country wanted it to be.

As Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence, a nation where “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
