The Story to Remember About Vin Scully

It’s the end of an era in Major League Baseball.

No it’s not because the Padres now have enough talent with this week’s big trades to win a World Series.

It’s the end of an era in baseball and broadcasting because of the passing of the long-time voice of the Dodgers, the legendary and the loved Vin Scully. He was bigger than his job and, in some ways, bigger than baseball itself.

As the president and CEO of the Dodgers put it, “We have lost an icon...one of the greatest voices in all of sports.”

Actually Vin Scully may have been the single greatest voice in all of sports and helped make baseball, America’s favorite pastime for decades.

You see there was no one who knew how to do what he did better than Vin Scully. He made listening to a baseball game a magical event for baseball fans of all ages because he didn’t’ just tell you what was happening. He told it like it was, good play or bad play, but he still was a fan.

Vin Scully knew his subject well and he knew his audience well and what they wanted and what they needed to know. He represented the best in broadcasting.

And he knew how to turn his play by play into an engaging and enjoyable story about what was happening on a baseball diamond.

From a very young age, we all listen to stories that help us learn about life. And the story of Vin Scully…we will all remember.
