How to Set Goals to Help You Live Longer

A lot of people set goals in their lives, some more than others. There are long term goals and short-term goals.

Some new research at Boston University suggests that setting goal can increase your chances of living longer. The researchers say they found that people with higher levels of purpose in life may have a lower risk of death from any cause.

And they say the relationship between purpose and longevity was true regardless of race, ethnicity, or gender.

They looked at data and responses from a study of more than 13,000 adults in the United States 50 years and older.

They defined “purpose” as the extent to which people perceive a sense of direction and goals in their lives. And the say “purpose” in life has been shown to lower the risk of cardiovascular disease and a lower risk of dementia.

The researchers at Boston University found that people with the highest sense of purpose displayed the lowest risk of death compared to those with the lowest observed sense of purpose.

So maybe the takeaway from this study is to set a goal to live longer by setting goals throughout your life especially as you get older.
