Why Americans Should Be Angry

There were two immediate reactions to the news on Wednesday of a shooting at a high school in Georgia.

One was “not again” or “it has happened again.” Yet another mass shooting in America.

The other reaction was a call for thoughts and prayers. In fact, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp quickly issued a statement after he got the news….urging residents of his state to join him in prayer.

And then when news came that the shooter was a 14 year kid and that law enforcement in Georgia and in the region where the high school is located had investigated anonymous online threats to carry out a school shooting and that the FBI had turned over the evidence to sheriff’s officials who interviewed the kid and his father last year with reports saying there was no probable cause at the time to make an arrest, the reactions turned more to anger than shock.

Sadly, very sadly, most people probably are not shocked any more when they hear of another mass shooting in America. And that is a real tragedy.

And while we know evil exists in our world and while plenty of prayers are needed in the fight against evil, the duty of our leaders at the local, state and federal level is to always work for the common good.

And right now, it seems that little if anything is being done. And that is what should make everyone angry.
