A search of headlines on the Google health page tells the story.
‘New York City flu cases surge past previous years’ peaks.’
‘Flu cases spike in San Antonio Texas
‘Illinois at high level of respiratory illness following notable increase in flu cases’
And the top headline on the Centers for Disease Control website says: “Seasonal flu activity remains elevated across most of the country.”
California also has been reporting a rise in flu cases.
As you heard from a family physician with Sharp Rees-Stealy on San Diego’s Morning News this week, there are more people going to emergency rooms and doctors’ offices with flu symptoms.
And when you talk to people who have had the flu, maybe you’re one of them yourself, the flu virus this season can be a bad one.
Public health officials say COVID cases are way down from what they once were thanks to vaccines. But the rate of flu shots is relatively low and that means more people are getting it.
The political controversy over vaccines has probably contributed to that. But if you find yourself sneezing and coughing with a fever and body aches, you probably don’t care about politics.
